1. What This Policy Covers

This policy describes the cookies and similar technologies used by the UpFro website at www.upfro.app and by the UpFro web application at app.upfro.app. It explains what each one is for, which of them you can switch off, and how to do so.

The UpFro iOS and Apple Watch applications are not web pages and do not use cookies. What those applications store on your device is described in the Privacy Policy.

This policy forms part of the Privacy Policy. Where this policy describes a technology, the Privacy Policy governs what we do with any information it produces.

2. What Cookies and Similar Technologies Are

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store, and which your browser sends back to that website on later visits. Cookies are how a site remembers that you are signed in.

Similar technologies include local storage and session storage, which also keep small values in your browser but are not transmitted automatically with every request. This policy treats them the same way, because what matters is that something is stored on your device rather than the technical means used.

A technology is strictly necessary when a feature you asked for cannot work without it. Signing in is the clearest example: without a stored session, every page would treat you as a stranger.

3. The UpFro Website

The website at www.upfro.app stores nothing on your device. It sets no cookies, and it writes nothing to local storage or session storage.

The website does use a privacy-preserving analytics measurement provided by our website hosting platform. It records that a page was viewed, and does not set a cookie, store an identifier on your device, or follow you to other websites.

What

Purpose

Stored on your device

Page-view measurement

Counting page views so that we know which pages are useful

Nothing

Cookie settings preference

Remembering that you switched analytics off, if you do

One value, only if you switch analytics off

4. Your Analytics Choice

The website carries a Cookie settings control. Opening it lets you switch the page-view measurement described in Section 3 off, and on again.

Three things are worth knowing about that choice:

  • Switching analytics off records one preference on your device. This is the only thing the website stores, and it exists solely so that your choice survives to your next visit. It is not an identifier, and it is not transmitted to us.

  • The choice is per browser and per device. A choice made in one browser does not carry to another browser, to another device, or to a private browsing window that you later close.

  • Clearing your browser data clears the choice, and the measurement returns to its default state.

The control does not cover the strictly necessary technologies described in Section 5, which cannot be switched off without breaking the ability to sign in.

5. The UpFro Web Application

The web application at app.upfro.app is where you sign in to your UpFro account. It uses the following.

What

Type

Purpose

Retention

Authentication cookies, set by our database and authentication provider, and named

Strictly necessary cookie

Keeping you signed in as you move between pages, and refreshing your session so that you are not signed out mid-use

Until the session expires, or until you sign out

Interface preferences, stored in your browser's local storage

Strictly necessary preference storage

Remembering your appearance settings, your language, which day your week starts on, your focus timer state, your sound choice, and which messages you have already dismissed

Until you clear your browser data

Neither is used for advertising, and neither is shared with anyone for advertising.

These cannot be switched off while you are signed in. Removing the authentication cookies signs you out; removing the preference storage returns the application to its default appearance and settings. Both are available to you through your browser, as described in Section 7.

6. What We Do Not Use

We do not use, and this website and web application do not set:

  • Advertising or marketing cookies

  • Cross-site tracking, tracking pixels, or advertising network tags

  • Social media tracking buttons

  • Profiling for the purpose of targeting advertisements

We do not sell personal information and we do not share personal information for advertising purposes, as stated in the Privacy Policy.

7. Controlling Cookies in Your Browser

Independently of the control described in Section 4, your browser lets you see what a website has stored, delete it, and block future storage. These settings are found under Privacy, Security, or Site Settings, depending on the browser, and every major browser publishes instructions for them.

Blocking or deleting storage for app.upfro.app signs you out and returns the application to its default settings. Blocking or deleting storage for www.upfro.app has no effect other than to clear any analytics choice you have made.

8. Third Parties

The following providers are involved in serving the website and the web application. Each is also identified in the Privacy Policy.

Provider

Role

Our website hosting platform

Hosting the website, and providing the page-view measurement described in Section 3

Our database and authentication provider

Providing the database and the authentication that sets the cookies described in Section 5

We do not permit these providers to use anything described in this policy to build advertising profiles.

9. Changes to This Policy

Where we add a technology that stores something on your device, we will update this policy before doing so and change the date at the top. Where a change materially affects what is stored or what it is used for, we will also make the change apparent on the website itself rather than relying on you to re-read this page.
